Suits & Jackets

West Terrace Menswear stock a huge range of suits and jackets for a variety of business and formal occasions. When coming in to see us about outfitting your wardrobe, we're going to help you consider a variety of aspects:

What's it for?
Is your new suit or jacket for a career move or for a formal dress code? When we help you we will discuss what the suit is for, to ensure that you wear the suit that suits, from weddings to work to just a jacket you can throw together with a pair of jeans.

Don't be in creases!
Horizontal creases and stress lines mean that the garment is too tight. You may have had an 80cm waist two years ago and a visit to the gym may be in order, but if there is ever a time to you be honest with yourself, it is when we help you fit your new suit or jacket.

How many fingers?
A pair of trousers is the correct size when you can comfortably insert two finders at the waist band.

A leg break
Your trousers' length should just reach the heel of your shoes at the back and should break once just above the front of the shoe.

Flatten image
Every detail of your pants should be flat: creases, pockets, flaps, zips and pleats. If the zip is visible and splays open then the pants are too small and may need alteration.

Bold shoulders
Whether structured or natural, the shoulders on your suit jacket should extend just beyond your shoulder and not like eaves on a temple. If the armholes feel tight when you stretch your arms, then the jacket is too small or may need some alteration.

Empty your pockets!
When wearing fitted, flat front pants, your pockets should be for nothing more than putting your hands in 'when required'. Handkerchiefs, keys, change and mobile phones destroy the line of your trousers and will also shorten their lifespan.

No jacket on chair.
Hanging your jacket on a chair then sitting on it is a no-no. It will put a break in the collar and shoulder to yoke that will not fall out until the next time it is pressed.

Take your jacket off
When seated for an extended period - like while driving a car, flying in an airliner or crunching numbers at your desk - take your jacket off. When airborne, either ask a flight attendant to hang it for you, or fold it so that the lining is outside and stragetically place it in the overhead compartment.

Get some air
Always have a good structured hanger and hand the suit up after wearing it. Give it some room to fall and recover or even air it for a day. This not only reduces your cleaning bill but substantially lengthens the life of your suit.

Dry-clean less
Unless you have worn half your main course at lunch, avoid dry-cleaning your suit unless your dry-cleaner is a good on. (an indication of a bad dry-cleaning is when the garment still smells of the chemicals and needs to be aired)

The Button Code
The final word from West Terrace Menswear on the correct button to button-up on your jacket suit and waistcoat:

One Button

Two Button

Three Button

Double Breasted

Waistcoat

Six Button Vest
